Polka Roots
It is speculated that Polka dancing began in Czechoslovakia in the early 1800s. A schoolmaster noted the dance of a servant girl,
who was said to have imitated the way Polish women (Polkas) dances. The dance swept through Paris in the spring of 1844, and became the
subversive counter-cultural dance of the time.
