Slavic-American U.S. Military Veterans

Beginning in the late 1800s, generations of Slavic immigrants came to the United States in search of freedom, opportunity, and a better life for their families. They built new lives through hard work and strong communities, and when their adopted country called, they answered.

From iconic moments like the raising of the American flag on Iwo Jima - where Slovak-American Marine Michael Strank stood among those who defined a generation - to faithful service behind the scenes in every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, Slavic-Americans have served with courage, honor, and pride.

An estimated 1.5 to 2 million men and women have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, with an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 killed in action and another 200,000 to 300,000 wounded. For their sacrifice and service, we are honored to recognize Slavic-American Military Veterans with induction into the North American Slavic Hall of Fame - June 12th and 13th, 2026.

Wall of Honor Recognition

As part of the induction of Slavic-American military veterans into the North American Slavic Hall of Fame, we’re building a virtual Wall of Honor to recognize those who have served.

Official military records do not track family origin or heritage. To maintain a history of the the contributions of Slavic immigrants to the United States, we’re asking for families to submit the names of their loves ones who served our nation through military service.

Use this form to provide information, including any details about their military service that you want to share. Later in 2026, we will add their names to the virtual Wall of Honor with plans to expand in the future.

You will be asked to provide your information as the nominating family member (or friend) and an email address. We may reach out to you for additional information as the project develops.

While we recognize the importance of all service, please only nominate veterans with Slavic family heritage.

Thank you for your help in providing this important recognition.
